Bladder Infection Symptoms

A bladder is nothing but a small balloon shaped organ or pouch in which urine is stored. Urine is discharged from the kidneys and passes into the bladder through a tube called ureter. Urinary tract is the main part which comprises bladder, urethra, kidneys, and ureters.

Causes :

Unlike women, men will have some underlying disease that causes bladder infection. Some people believe that boys who are not circumcised in young age are prone to bladder infection. Whenever they have sex, chances are there for the bacteria to collect under the skin of the penile area causing infection on the bladder.

Men may also get infected through sexual activity, when he has sex with women who carry infected bacteria. Very often, bacteria by name Chlamydia and mycoplasma are responsible for causing infection.

For some men, enlarged glands of prostrate can cause bladder infection. Stones in the kidney can affect the bladder causing infection. Sometimes, the size of the urethra may get narrowed due to some reason, which can trigger infection.

Improper use of catheter may also cause infection in bladder for men.

Aged or elderly men are more prone to get infection than adults. He may get cystitis infection with marginal increase in prostrate size.

Symptoms :

There may be burning sensation when urinating. Frequently he would like to pass urine. Urine cannot be controlled and there would be persistent urge to urinate. Rarely there may be bloody discharge in urine. There may be foul smell while urinating.

Treatment :

Before the doctor starts treating infection, he should find out the real cause. Kidney infection is serious to treat and may take longer time than you expect.Normal types of bladder infection are treated with antibiotics for a week.
